Vibraphone Mallets Signature Prestige Thomas Dobler – 01
The Signature Prestige Thomas Dobler 01 "African Ballad" mallets produce a warm, round, singing and very rubbery sound, with a particularly distinctive character. Conceived as a tribute to the vibraphonist Milt Jackson, this model recaptures an extreme rubber sound, in the spirit of the sounds of the 1950s, where fundamentals and overtones largely dominate.
Their attack is soft at quiet dynamics, progressive and muffled, encouraging enveloping, expressive playing. The projection remains round and sustained, while the feel proves responsive at louder dynamics. They offer beautiful resonances, with a deep and immediately recognisable sound colour.
The pronounced weight of the head brings depth, foundation and projection, while strongly reinforcing the fundamental. The Prestige design further accentuates this presence in the fundamental register, while the Velvety yarn gives a particularly velvety sound texture.
Available with rattan or wooden handles. For vibraphone we recommend rattan: more flexible and more comfortable, it also allows the instrument's sound to develop more fully, without the colouration or vibrations inherent to wooden handles.
The Prestige Series wool yarns have been specially developed by Resta-Jay to offer different playing sensations and sound colours. Depending on the model, you can choose between three types of wool yarn:
“Exclusive” Wool yarn
Highly resistant, this wool yarn produces a precise, rich and well-structured sound. Its break-in period is more progressive: the mallets require more playing time to reach their optimal sound, but in return offer excellent durability.
“Clarity” Wool yarn
The original wool yarn used for the Prestige Series. It provides excellent clarity, a fast response and a bright sound. Its break-in period is shorter, allowing the mallets to reach their full sound more quickly, although the wool yarn is slightly less resistant than the Exclusive version.
“Velvety” Wool yarn
Developed to provide a particularly smooth, velvety and comfortable feel, this wool yarn offers a unique playing sensation and allows for a wide range of dynamics and sound colours.
