Book of Gems, by Emmanuel Séjourné, is a piece for mixed choir and two percussionists, published in the La Percussion en Fête series.
The work unfolds in five movements, each named after a stone: Beryllus, Sapphirus, Sardonyx, Jacinthus and Jaspis. Each singer holds two small pebbles, used throughout the score; an optional djembe part can be added. The two players cover a wide instrumentarium: vibraphone, marimba, tubular bells, low timpani, tam-tams, toms, bongos, bass drums, cymbals, triangle, caxixi, maracas, flexatone and Japanese bowl. Allow around fifteen minutes of music. The choir parts are available on hire.
