P. Chamouard writes: the vibraphone is an instrument whose sound can be airy and poetic. Played pianissimo, it gives me a sense of fragility. I then associate it with crystal glasses, whose ringing resonance is quite close to that of the vibraphone. The clearly distinct sound of one glass against another puts me in mind of the different notes of the vibraphone. In the central section I use a bow, whose gliding along the bar sits alongside the percussive stroke of the mallets without contradicting it. Elsewhere, the instrument's supple rhythmic drive and its dreamlike sound were the threads running through the music.
