Marching' - Caisse claire et Grosse-caisse, by Emmanuel JAY: a piece for snare drum and bass drum or drum kit. A title from the New Orleans march repertoire.
As the title suggests, Marching' draws on the world of the marching band in the days of double drumming. The snare drum playing should be supple, with a natural swing to the triplet quavers. The flams should come through without being overdone. Drawing on the New Orleans tradition, the piece can be played by a single drummer needing only a snare drum, a bass drum and a hi-hat. Set piece for the 2005 TAMA Bourgogne drum kit competition. The bass drum punctuates, anchors and even underlines the snare drum's phrases.
