Andrés Ramos writes: Chroma is built on a collage of short musical sections that never develop beyond the initial statement of an idea. In this deliberately raw form, the contrast between sections becomes the expressive device, and it falls to the performer to create an overall coherence. The pervasive chromaticism allows keyboard percussion to be conceived outside any traditional sense of harmony. The keyboard is treated as a set of small instruments, the whole organised by a strict serialism that can at times prove very elastic.
