This first volume is devoted to the triplet, approached in deliberately elementary fashion. The focus falls on accent patterns and on combinations between snare drum and toms. The book runs through five chapters — triplets and accents, snare drum and small tom, snare drum with small tom and floor tom, accents between snare drum and toms, then assorted patterns — and closes with sixteen-bar solos. Single alternating strokes predominate, leading with the right hand; a few sticking variants appear towards the end. Mitchell Peters was Principal Percussionist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and later of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
